Concrete and reinforced steel footings are an integral component of any block wall to underpin soil, support pressure  and ensure structural stability.  Width and depth of footings in addition to concrete strength is determined by ground conditions and the size of the wall being constructed.  The ground is excavated with reinforced steel bars placed into the trench, and concrete poured below ground level. To ensure durability, strength and longevity, we fill all Besser block walls with concrete after reinforcing steel has been placed. This is known as core-filling. Core-filling is one of the final components of block wall construction, and will be completed by hand or with the aid of a concrete pump depending on the size of the structure. Core-filled Besser block walls have the strength to bear pressure from soil when used for retaining purposes and are able to withstand the elements by weathering storms, intense winds,  and accidents dependant on force.
